Composition

Organic mineral formed inside the shells of molluscs. Composed of layers of aragonite and organic matter of conchioline that gradually accumulate around the grain of sand or other microscopic nucleus

Color

White, dairy, cream, pink, grey, gold and black. The pearl glow (chandelier) appears due to the finest layers of aragonite, which reflect and refract light, creating a soft inner glow and depth of color

Hardness

2.5-4.5 on the Moos scale. Fairly soft material, requires particularly careful care

Legends and Symbolism

Since ancient times, pearls have been considered a symbol of purity, wisdom, and womanhood. In different cultures, they were called "the tears of the gods" or "the moonlight of the sea."
